Gabriel Saenz 2016 CRLA Peer Mentor of the Year
Gabriel Saenz was chosen as the recipient of the 2016 College Reading & Learning Association’s (CRLA) IMTPC Outstanding Mentor Award.
While each of the nominees were well-qualified, hardworking mentors who provide excellent support to their peers and contribute much to the success of their college’s mentoring program, Gabriel stood out in the minds of the selection committee as a true representative of what an outstanding mentor should be. The University College staff congratulates Gabriel on being named the recipient of this prestigious award. This award demonstrates Gabriel’s commitment to academic excellence and success.
Gabriel attended the CRLA conference in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 3-6, 2016. He was presented with the award on Friday, November 4th.
Gabriel was a Peer Mentor with PACE since Fall 2015. Initially working with minority male students, Gabriel segued into mentoring a diverse population of first-year students.
He served as a Lead Peer Mentor, providing support and mentoring to a caseload of 40 first-year students and 12 new, and returning, Peer Mentors.
Gabriel graduated in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Honors Studies. He plans on pursuing a Juris Doctor degree and hopes to become a lawyer.
